Case
Design contest

Duration
48 hours

Focus
UI, UX

Designflows is an annual design competition organized by the tech company Bending Spoons. In 2021 the competition was made available European-wide, and of course I chose to jump on the train.

This year's edition consisted of designing the interface for a DIY app named Homely, where it is possible to rent different types of tool kits. The task was to design 3 screens: Toolkit Rental, My Rentals, and How it works, and to design the Homely app icon. The brief also showed examples of user stories and further instructions.

My contribution did not advance to the finals, but it was an extremely fun experience as I have not participated in anything like this before. It was interesting to push myself to create something from a short brief and to deliver a doable concept within 48 hours, but at the same time try to do something original. With a deadline as such, I got a deeper empathy of what my strengths are as well as what I usually waste time on during my design process, and I learned a lot from it.

I will definitely do it again, and recommend everyone to try it out if you are a fan of UI and fine with sacrificing a rainy autumn weekend for some design crunch.
